The Trailer Park
For May 4th, 2008- The Strangers

Maybe we ought to take the next logical step and demand that horror movies clock in at two-minutes. Think about it- fright-flicks work best in quick moments, which is why the trailers for horror movies often look cool with the end product uping the suckage once elongated to ninety minutes.
We won't know until May 30th if The Strangers falls into the same pattern- but let's face it, it's got a damn good trailer. This unofficial Americanization of the French thriller Ils (Them) puts Botox-candidates Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a yuppie couple whose romantic evening gets doused out by a trio of menacing figures with masks and very large knives. It's easily the best snack-sized tidbit of creepiness I've seen in a long time and its hallmark, an extended shot of Liv Tyler as she gazes off distracted while a Paper Bag man just stares at her from the shadows, at least makes one hope that director Brian Bertino may put more value in tense set-up than in gore. Also, gotta love the last line of the trailer, which will send a snowball into your stomach.
